Fox News Interview Takes Bizarre Turn When Abdul El-Sayed Asks Jesse Watters, ‘Are You Circumcised?’
Fox News host Jesse Watters’ interview with Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed took an unexpected turn Monday when a clash over gender-affirming care for minors resulted in the Democrat asking the host, “Are you circumcised?”
As expected, much of the interview, which aired on the network’s Jesse Watters Primetime, was contentious, despite El-Sayed opening by saying he was looking forward to a “good, wholesome conversation.”
The Fox News host pressed the candidate on everything from ICE and the Green New Deal to his proposed wealth tax — at one point invoking Beyoncé — as well as the federal budget, the Second Amendment, and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. El-Sayed, meanwhile, repeatedly turned the conversation to President Donald Trump’s war in Iran, rising gas prices, and his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. Eventually, the two landed on what Watters called “sex change for minors,” inquiring, “Do you support that?”
Read a transcript of the continued exchange below:
EL-SAYED: I remember having great conversations with my conservative friends about Right to Try legislation — the idea that the government shouldn’t tell you what kind of health care you should have. I just think the government shouldn’t tell you what kind of health care you should have, and if you’re a minor, it’s between you and your doctors —
WATTERS: You want to try on kids?
EL-SAYED: Now, if you disagree with that, if you disagree with that, if you disagree that health care decisions need to be made by a doctor and parents and the patient, then I think we just agree to disagree, but, you know, you want to put government inside a clinic or a hospital —
WATTERS: So Abdul, you’re a doctor, right?
EL-SAYED: I am.
WATTERS: So you think it’s OK for a parent to slash his kid’s ding-a-ling off? You think that’s OK?
El-SAYED: I mean, so, do you really wanna have this conversation? Are you circumcised?
WATTERS: Ah! Yeah, but I mean, uh, that’s a personal question, doctor!
EL-SAYED: OK, so you probably should want to move on. You probably should want to move on.
WATTERS: A circumcision’s different than castration.
EL-SAYED: I just think it’s a problem that you think you get to decide what happens between a parent, a doctor, and a patient. I’m just saying that, yes, circumcision is surgery on a kid’s ding-a-ling, so if you really wanna bring that up, you can.
WATTERS: OK.
EL-SAYED: I just think you guys are really selective about how you want to talk about these things.
WATTERS: That’s wacky. Abdul, Michigan’s not going for that. That is sick stuff.
