Fox Host Rips ‘Terrible’ Trump Policy as ‘Socialism’: ‘Just Give Me the Money!’

Fox News host Lawrence Jones ripped President Donald Trump’s plan to extend federal child care subsidies to families with a stay-at-home parent, calling the proposal “a terrible idea” and “socialism” during Monday’s edition of Fox & Friends.

The proposal, reportedly championed by Vice President JD Vance, would allow some married couples with a stay-at-home parent to tap money from the $12 billion Child Care and Development Fund. The program currently helps low- and moderate-income parents afford child care while they work, attend school, or receive job training. Under the draft rule, qualifying families could receive roughly $9,000 per child annually, according to The New York Times.

Jones, alongside co-hosts Griff Jenkins and Rachel Campos-Duffy — who is married to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy — spoke about the potential move on Monday, with Campos-Duffy calling it her “favorite policy, like ever, that President Trump has brought.”

Raising his hands as if to disagree, Jones added, “It’s definitely a political winner. I see what the president is doing, but I think it’s a terrible idea. It’s socialism. Just give me the money! Just give me more of my money. I don’t want any of these —”

“You want just a tax, like lower my taxes?” Campos-Duffy clarified.

“Just lower my taxes,” Jones confirmed. “I don’t want all these programs. Again, I understand that this is a political winner in this new age of populism, um, but the government consistently choosing who they are gonna give these tax benefits to instead of just giving us the money — and if you want that money to pay for lower childcare, then you can use that money for that.”

“But you’re paying for that pot of money anyway,” Campos-Duffy pointed out. “The money set aside to pay for childcare is going, right now, to day care centers and to women who are unmarried, and it incentivizes people not to get married in order to get this money, and now, this says, ‘No, if you’re an at-home mom, you’re working too, and you’re gonna get a piece of that money, too.’ I think it really sends a powerful philosophical message.”

“In principle, yes,” Jones agreed.

“I thought you said you weren’t a libertarian anymore!” Campos-Duffy pushed back.

“It’s not even about being a libertarian!” Jones protested. “It’s just a basic conservative philosophy! It’s like, instead of the government choosing what money and what you should do, just give me my money.”
