Former Trump White House Lawyer Says President Is Turning the Building Into a ‘Whorehouse’

Former White House lawyer Ty Cobb, who served during President Donald Trump’s first term, said the president is turning the building into a “combination of a whorehouse and Las Vegas.”

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that construction of Trump’s ballroom – where the White House’s East Wing once stood before he demolished it last year – can resume. In a 5-4 decision, the court lifted a lower court’s pause on construction, finding that the plaintiff, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, lacked standing. Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the liberal justices and issued a dissent in which he called the ballroom’s construction a “likely infringement of the Legislature’s power of the purse and authority to regulate federal property in the District of Columbia.”

Hours later on CNN’s OutFront, host Erin Burnett welcomed Cobb to the show and sought his reaction.

“One of the other things that the chief justice said was, and I quote from his dissent, ‘The White House is an iconic American building whose symbolism and history are wrapped up in its architecture,'” Burnett stated. “That is, in a sense, a non-legal statement, right? That is a statement that’s somehow more profound than that.”

Cobb responded by referencing Trump’s other White House renovations and decorative changes, including Trump’s goldification of the historic structure:

Yeah, very much so. I mean, it certainly touched me because, as somebody who had spent a lot of time in the White House and, and in or about the grounds, you know, it was a beautiful setting and a historic setting. And it’s, you know, it’s turning into some combination of a whorehouse and Las Vegas at this stage of the game with all the golden paving of it. So, it’s tragic what’s going on. But sadly, it’s gonna continue, at least for the time being.

Trump has obsessed over the ballroom, whose construction he is personally overseeing. Last year, he clashed with the architect over the size of the new structure. James McCrery II expressed concern to Trump that the 90,000-square-foot structure would dwarf the White House, which is 55,000 square feet. In December, Trump fired McCrery.
