CNN Data Guru Warns Trump in a Polling Nosedive with American Workers: ‘Not a Happy Labor Day’

President Donald Trump’s standing with American workers has undergone a stunning “switcheroo” since the 2024 election, according to polling highlighted by CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten in a Labor Day segment.

Enten joined CNN News Central anchor John Berman on Monday to examine Trump’s support among full-time workers and found that voters who once gave him a commanding advantage on the economy have turned sharply against him.

“It’s just a complete 180!” Enten said, pointing to an average of CNN/SSRS polling, adding: “Way down there we go, down to the Hudson River!”

The analyst revealed that Trump previously enjoyed a 20-point advantage over then-Democratic presidential rival Kamala Harris on who employed voters trusted more to handle the economy in 2024 but that his net economic approval rating among full-time workers now stands 41 points underwater.

“We’re talking about a switcheroo in the wrong direction of 61 points on this Labor Day,” he said. “It is not a happy Labor Day, indeed, for President Trump when it comes to how those who are employed view him on the economy.”

The souring sentiment extends to workers’ confidence in finding another quality job. Enten cited Gallup polling showing 72% of workers said it was a bad time to find a quality job in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 54% in the fourth quarter of 2020. Just 28% now consider it a good time, down from 46%.

“Those who are in the workforce, simply put, do not think it is a good time to find a quality job,” Enten said. “And that bad number has only climbed ever higher.”

The shift could carry significant consequences into November’s midterm elections, he warned, then breaking down CNN/SSRS polling which showed Republicans held a six-point advantage over Democrats among employed voters in the House ballot in October 2024. Democrats now lead that group by nine points, a 15-point swing.

“A complete switcheroo,” he said.

“Those in the labor force, they are turning against the president of United States and therefore turning against Republicans running for Congress,” he continued.

Berman noted that the figures reflected voter sentiment despite a positive jobs report last week.

“And the sentiment is what drives things going in the election two months,” Enten replied. “You’re basically seeing Kalshi prediction market saying one thing about where the real job market is going and what the polling says. And the polling says that voter sentiment is very, very low at this point, unhappy with the president and Republicans.”
