‘Chaos On the Ground’: Fox Reports On Escalating Battle Threatening to Further Choke Global Oil Supply
Fox News anchor Sandra Smith spoke to the network’s chief international correspondent Steve Harrigan on Monday for an update on the latest developments in the Middle East, which are threatening to worsen a global oil supply crisis.
“Breaking today: President Trump says Iran wants a deal quickly and badly, as the U.S. continues its economic war against Iran. This, as Iran’s Houthi proxies are capturing key territory near one of the world’s most crucial shipping lanes, and Yemeni forces start to push back. Our chief international correspondent Steve Harrigan is reporting live out of Tel Aviv for us at this hour. Steve?” Smith began.
“Sandra, these Houthis are really in danger of opening up a new second front in this war. They are on the move. They’re fighting against Yemen government forces, and they are winning. They are pushing them back. Right now they’re also targeting Saudi Arabia. They’re using drones and missiles to attack Saudi oil infrastructure as well, and they are threatening a key piece of land,” Harrigan reported, adding:
All along the Red Sea they have taken territory, including the key port city of Mocha, and they are threatening, as you mentioned, the key strait, the Bab al-Mandab Strait. That carries about 12 percent of the world’s oil passing through there. In the past, the U.S. has bombed the Houthis, the Saudis have attacked the Houthis, now the Yemeni government is fighting the Houthis. They’ve been able to come back, though. This is a group with mobile weapons who disappears and then reconstitutes itself. The fighting now is just chaos on the ground. You have tens of thousands of civilians just fleeing with whatever they can carry.
Harrigan then cut to a clip of an interview with a refugee in Yemen, who said:
We continued for an hour along the road after we ran out of fuel. If you could have seen how we suffered — we had never experienced a war like this before. We have no clothes, no food, nothing at all. Even we don’t have money with us.
“And action continues, too, in the other, more significant Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials say one of their commercial vessels was targeted by a projectile and hit, killing one, wounding several. This, as the U.S. naval blockade continues of all Iranian ports. Sandra, back to you,” Harrigan reported.
“Steve Harrigan, live out of Tel Aviv for us. Steve, thank you,” Smith wrapped.
