Bret Baier Raves Over Trump’s Marathon ‘Barn-Buster’ Speech: ‘This Is Him Energized’
Fox News anchor Bret Baier, who hosts the network’s flagship straight news program Special Report, effusively praised President Donald Trump’s keynote address on Wednesday night.
The Republican National Committee is holding a two-day midterm convention in Dallas at Trump’s urging. The committee had suggested that Republican candidates who planned to attend donate $25,000 to the party.
Trump’s approval rating is deeply underwater in virtually every poll, but he has insisted on making November’s midterm elections a referendum on him. Many high-profile Republican incumbents – including ones in swing states and swing districts – are skipping the convention.
The president’s speech on Wednesday lasted more than one hour and 45 minutes. In the address, Trump suggested that the U.S. would not even exist right now if he had lost the 2024, election, told the Texas crowd to vote for Ken Paxton for U.S. Senate even though he is not “the best-looking guy,” and scolded audience members who booed Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD).
When the speech finally ended, Baier offered his immediate reaction to Sean Hannity.
“Listen, Sean, you know this president better than most,” Baier said, referring to Hannity’s longtime friendship with Trump. “But this is him energized. This is him feeding off this crowd. This is, you know, he just loves this element. And let’s remind everybody, this guy is 80 years old. He just gives this barn-buster [sic] speech. He went all over the place. We got this speech written out. There were a lot of fill-in-the-blanks.”
“I think that would’ve probably lasted about 40 minutes,” Hannity replied.
“Right,” Baier said. “But the best line, I really think the best line was, ‘On election night we’re going to prove that America does not belong to those who hate it. America belongs to those who love it.’ And that is the biggest cheer they got from this crowd.”
