Bill Maher Praises Trump: ‘When He’s in That White House… He Never Gets Mad, He Listens’ 

Bill Maher praised President Donald Trump on Friday night, days after dining with him for a second time at the White House.

Last week, Maher revealed he would be heading to the White House again. The comedian took some heat last year after the dinner when he reported that during their first meeting, Trump was “gracious.”

“And why isn’t that in other settings, I don’t know, and I can’t answer, and it’s not my place to answer,” Maher said at the time. “I’m just telling you what I saw, and I wasn’t high.”

On Friday’s Real Time, the host interviewed former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and criticized Trump for his handling of Ukraine and treatment of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Maher hypothesized that if Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) were still alive, the senator would be able to keep Trump in line on the issue.

“Honestly, I think what he’s doing with Russia is unconscionable,” Maher said. “And Lindsey Graham was the guy who always talked him out of that. If Lindsay Graham was alive, I just don’t think that Trump would be doing the stuff he’s doing, basically putting a knife in the back of Zelensky.”

Maher then noted that Trump had originally green-lit a live-streamed execution of Fort Hood mass murderer Nidal Hasan, but changed course after public outcry.

“Somebody talked him out of that,” Maher said. “He does listen. When he’s in that White House, he looks you in the eye, he never interrupts, he never gets mad, he listens.”

“Yes,” Leavitt replied. “And he surveys the room. I mean, as something I find admirable, Bill, about him is, he’ll look around the room, and he’ll ask the opinions of everyone in it, whether it’s a low-level staffer or his chief of staff, he genuinely wants to know how people feel, what they think. He takes their counsel and advice. And then I think he makes the best decision that I think he believes is best for the country in that moment.”
