‘As Sick as It Gets!’ Mika Brzezinski ‘Shook’ By Ramaswamy’s ‘Depraved’ Attempt to ‘Dirty Up’ Rival with Her Past Trauma

Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said she was “shook” by Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s “doubling down” in his vow to push his “depraved” attempt to “dirty up” his Democratic rival Amy Acton by using her own estranged mother against her.

The ad which surfaced Tuesday, produced by Ramaswamy’s campaign and supported by a $4 million statewide buy, features Donna Arthur accusing her daughter of lying about her troubled childhood. The campaign has continued to defend the spot despite criticism from both parties.

Acton has said her stepfather sexually abused her between the ages of 10 and 12 and that her mother did not protect her. Her biological father later filed a report that led to the stepfather being indicted on a rape charge, but he fled Ohio and died in 2004 before the case was resolved.

Brzezinski unloaded on Wednesday morning after Ramaswamy was challenged by reporters about the ad — and reacted by indignantly continuing to back the spot.

“Ramaswamy’s campaign says it plans to spend $4 million promoting the ad, so they’re doubling down on this sick, depraved effort to dirty up their opponent by using Amy Acton’s mother against her,” she said.

“Clearly, clearly, this is a family with a mother who has made some decisions that would make you question her mental health and if she’s even okay. So to take advantage of people and use them that way is sick in itself. But when you look at the whole story, it’s almost hard to believe how depraved this effort is.”

After rolling back a clip of the Republican saying he would defend the ad, Brzezinski quipped: “Of course he does.”

She continued: “There seems to be no lie too ugly for them. No trauma they won’t weaponize. No line they won’t cross for power.”

“Elections do have consequences, decency being one of them, and Ohio voters have a choice to make on this. I predict this will backfire,” she said.

Brzezinski added: “But I also wonder if this will go beyond the Ohio governor’s race, because this lumps Republicans in a whole pot of ugly, whether it be from Epstein on down to taking an abused child’s mother and using that mother against the adult child in her campaign. I mean, this is as sick as it gets.”

“This is as low as I’ve ever seen it!” she declared. “And that’s saying a lot in the age of Trump. But this really does cap off what Trump and his acolytes will do to win. Sick is just the beginning of it. I am shook by it.”

Later as she broke down the mechanics at work in the ad, Brzezinski grew emotional: “I want to talk a little bit about the potential ripple effect of this because there is something worse about this than most everything we’ve ever seen ever in a political attack ad.”

“You have a survivor of repeated sexual assault by a stepfather to a 12, 11, 10 year old daughter and that abuser is not used against her, it’s actually the abusers wife, her mother, which seems to me the ultimate twist in cruelty in this,” she said, choking up.

“To lose your own mom to your abuser at the age of 12, to be removed from the home, for your mother to turn [her] back on you and stay with your abuser, and then to have a political candidate platform your mother and use your mother against you after all of that, that you have been through, all of that trauma, all of that sexual assault, all of that twisted, unbelievably depraved behavior that happened in her home when she was a young girl!”
