Trump Calls NVIDIA Chief Live Onstage at Major Tech Forum to Rail Against AI ‘Hoax’: ‘The Robots Will Not Be Taking Over!’

He had to take the call.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had his Monday panel discussion at the All-In Summit crashed by President Donald Trump, who called the tech exec while he was onstage in Los Angeles in front of thousands of attendees. The president used it as another opportunity to declare he will not be regulating AI, despite recent pleas for more oversight from industry leaders like Elon Musk and OpenAI boss Sam Altman.
“I know all about AI. I also have common sense about AI. The robots will not be taking over, the AI will not be taking over, the whole thing is a Hoax!” Trump said.
He then added, “With that, we have to be a little bit careful, we have to do things and do them prudently. But that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop an industry.”
Trump’s call to Huang came about an hour after he posted the doomsday fears about AI — where the tech goes rogue and wipes out humanity — is nothing more than a “HOAX.” The president vowed progress “will not be stopped” on his watch, because it is crucial the USA remains ahead of China in the AI race.
His comments followed Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei making waves over the weekend by arguing “we must slow down the pace” of AI development to make sure it doesn’t go off the rails. His argument was quickly endorsed by Musk and Altman — two rivals who rarely agree on anything in public.
Trump’s call was captured and shared on X by tech entrepreneur Ben Pouladian.
Jensen spoke to Trump for about a minute with the phone to his ear, before struggling for a few seconds to put him on speaker for the crowd to hear. Trump joked about it right after.
“The great thing about life is that Jensen can develop the most complex computer chip in the world — and nobody can top any of yours — but he can’t figure out how to put me on speaker,” Trump quipped.
That led to some hearty laughs from the crowd.
Trump reiterated what he has been saying a lot over the last two days — that the worst-case scenario concerns about AI are overblown. He said worrying about it too much is “playing right into the hands” of China and those who do not want to see the USA prosper.
“I’m telling you, it’s all a hoax. The data centers are great and they make people wealthy,” Trump added.
He went on, saying his uncle John Trump was “probably the best” professor MIT ever had — which he said gave him a genetic advantage when it came to understanding tech.
“That explains why you know so much about AI,” Huang assured him.
The Monday call added to an already cozy relationship between the two guys. Trump has celebrated Huang for being a “smart man” who is doing an “amazing job” when it comes to AI chips, and Huang has returned the compliments by saying the president gives the nation a “unique advantage.”
Trump also has a close link to the All-In podcast, after co-host David Sacks served as his crypto and AI czar until March; Sacks then moved over to co-chairing the president’s Council of Advisors.
As for AI, Trump’s mini-rant while on speakerphone came after he made similar comments over the past 24 hours. Before his “HOAX” post, he scoffed at regulating AI on Sunday, and he followed that up with a post earlier on Monday saying the best AI guardrail was a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT” like himself.
And in yet another post after his call, Trump dubbed himself the AI “Hoax Buster.”
