Fox’s Jessica Tarlov ‘Extremely Skeptical’ About ‘Odd Bedfellows’ Bernie Sanders, Steve Bannon Teaming Up to Battle AI Threat

Fox News’ Jessica Tarlov is “extremely skeptical” of Washington, D.C.’s latest odd couple, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and MAGA leader Steve Bannon.

Bannon and Sanders both spoke on Tuesday at the Pro-Human Assembly where they called for major reforms to combat the potential threat of AI and they railed against tech “oligarchs.”

On The Five, Tarlov said she was skeptical of the “odd bedfellows.”

“If Bernie Sanders supposedly wants to be the standard bearer on this issue that might give some people pause,” Dana Perino said after a clip was shown of Sanders at the conference warning, “Like nuclear weapons, artificial super intelligence is a threat to humanity and it must be treated as such.”

“I think so. The fact that he’s standing shoulder to shoulder with Steve Bannon will give you even more pause. I know the horseshoe of politics, it’s strange and makes for odd bedfellows but extremely skeptical of that,” Tarlov said.

She said she’s seen a “drastic escalation” in doomerism surrounding AI, but she argued California Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D) guardrails on the technology in his state, which include audits and protections for kids, could be a road map for what the federal government should be going.

Tarlov said:

I know most of you are in the no regulation bucket, but I was reading about the AI regulations that Gavin Newsom has put in California, a state that benefits the most of any state in America from the AI boom, and he’s found a way to, you know, protect kids, do these regular audits of AI, and I feel like maybe California could be a bit of a road map to have some safeguards while still making sure that the technology can do the good stuff and continue progressing.

Sanders and Bannon gave back-to-back speeches at Tuesday’s event.

“Sanders did a very good job of summarizing the risk. We’re trying to rise above partisanship, and we have to… Number one, we can never trust what an oligarch says because all they do, they’re disingenuous and they lie,” Bannon said.

Sanders blamed both sides for enacting regulation faster on AI.

“Congress, under both Democratic and Republican control, have been asleep at the wheel,” the senator said.
