An NFL referee was caught on camera Sunday appearing to tell Arizona Cardinals player Trey McBride, “F*ck you” during a heated altercation.

During Sunday afternoon’s game between the Cardinals and the New York Giants, McBride was seen exchanging words with line judge Jeff Seeman in the fourth quarter. During that exchange, Seeman yelled something at McBride, prompting a team official to step in and pull McBride away. Taking a closer look at Seeman, he seemed to yell, “F*ck you.”

NFL Players Association Executive Director JC Tretter called Seeman’s behavior’s “unacceptable,” adding:

This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.

Later that night, CBS Sports reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala took to X/Twitter to provide her own account of the exchange. She said that McBride was pleading for a penalty after he felt a Giants defender committed pass interference. Kinkhabwala also specified that McBride did not curse at Seeman but told him, “You’re ruining the game.”

league spokesperson Brian McCarthy told the Associated Press, the league was made aware of the situation and was “looking into” it:

The NFL is looking into the circumstances of an official swearing at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during the team’s loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, league spokesperson Brian McCarthy told The Associated Press by email.
