Knicks Pause Ticket Sales After Glitch Leads to Outrageous Prices: Report

The New York Knicks paused ticket sales Thursday in response to a glitch inexplicably causing them to be listed at much higher prices.

Single-game tickets for the Knicks’ 2026 season became available for purchase. After breaking a five-decade championship drought by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, the Knicks will open their season at home against the Philadelphia 76ers. In addition to it being the night the Knicks unveil their championship banner, it will also be LeBron James’s debut as a member of the Sixers.

Considering the circumstances, fans expected tickets to the Knicks’ season opener to be expensive. The listed prices, however, likely took many by surprise as the average price was approximately $2,500.

According to a report from the New York Post, that was actually a technical glitch. The report read:

After their individual game tickets were listed Wednesday with eye-popping prices — including a $1,000-plus minimum for the season opener against the Sixers — the Knicks suspended sales because of an internal mistake, The Post has learned.

The team plans to restart sales early next week with more modest prices. The new markups will be roughly 12% above last season’s prices, which is the same hike for season-ticket holders.

Those who bit the bullet and purchased tickets at that original price, the report added, will be refunded the difference once the prices are adjusted.

Absurd ticket prices have unfortunately become par for the course for the Knicks. Ahead of the team’s first home NBA Finals Game in decades, tickets at Madison Square Garden were selling for several thousand. One CNN segment revealed that New Yorkers would have actually saved money by booking a trip to San Antonio and going to a Finals game there instead.
