‘We’re Not as Good as They Are!’ James Carville Admits It’s a ‘Fact’ Republicans Are Better at Messaging

Democratic strategist James Carville admitted it’s simply a “fact” that Republicans are better at messaging than Democrats.

On the Politics War Room podcast with his co-host Al Hunt, Carville predicted big wins for Democrats in the midterms, but he doesn’t think believe those victories will come down to the party’s messaging.

Carville argued Republicans are “painting themselves” negatively for the public after hearing a listener’s question on why Republicans seem to be better at turning Democrats into “boogeymen.”

“What’s happened now is they’re painting themselves that way. They’re going down not because of Democratic messaging, not because of a relentless offense by the Democrats that points out their faults. They’re going down because the public sees it and they don’t need a Democratic intervention right now. It’s not called for,” Carville said about Republicans.

The longtime strategist added that he hopes Democrats find the right candidate to be their messenger in 2028, but he believes Republicans are better on two messaging fronts and that’s just a “fact” of American politics.

“For whatever the reason’s been, I think it’s because we’re more of a coalition, not only do not have a consistent negative story to tell about the other party, we don’t have a consistent positive story to tell about ourselves. I hope and pray that in 2028 we have a really skilled candidate who is able to do that. But that is a fact of American politics. We’re not as good as they are at the negative and we’re not as good as they are on the positive,” he said.

On top of predicting big wins for Democrats in the midterms, Carville has also argued President Donald Trump will leave office in the face of GOP losses and the reality of a Democrat-majority Congress.

“JD Vance, in my opinion, will be president next April. He will be the most constrained, ineffective, babbling president in the history of the United States,” Carville said last month about his Trump prediction.
