Tucker Carlson Says Trump Should Be Removed From Office ‘Immediately’ Over Nuclear Posture

Tucker Carlson said Friday that President Donald Trump should be removed from office “immediately” if he is actively considering the first use of nuclear weapons, arguing that such a move should represent an absolute “red line” for any president.

Carlson made the declaration during a lengthy discussion with Joe Kent, the former director of the National Counterterrorism Center who quit earlier this year in protest of the Iran war.

Emphasizing that while he was “strongly opposed” to the first two impeachments of Trump, Carlson continued, “The second any president actively considers first use of nuclear weapons, that person should be removed from office immediately, because that’s got to be the red line, destroying all of humanity with a nuclear strike.”

Carlson then questioned why there was not already an effort underway to oust Trump over the matter.

“Why isn’t there an attempt to remove him from office, like, immediately?” he asked. “Anyone who would even tolerate that kind of talk from any of his subordinates or employees is by definition unfit.”

The comments followed a monologue in which Carlson warned that the United States was moving dangerously close to nuclear conflict. He pointed in part to reported changes under consideration at the Pentagon that would place greater emphasis on tactical nuclear weapons and provide the president with more options for limited nuclear strikes.

Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby previewed that approach at a U.S. Strategic Command conference earlier this month, saying officials wanted to give the president and defense secretary “credible, rational nuclear options.” The planned revisions would not, however, create a new U.S. first-use policy, as Washington already reserves that option under certain circumstances.

Carlson nevertheless went significantly further, arguing that Trump’s public threats of Iran’s “total destruction” amount to an implicit nuclear threat because, in Carlson’s view, such devastation could not be accomplished conventionally.

Kent similarly argued that if the administration remains committed to forcing Iran’s government to collapse, the limits of conventional military options could ultimately leave officials considering a nuclear strike.

“I think we would be fools to think that this couldn’t happen here in this current scenario, especially as the administration scrambles for a way out,” Kent added.
