‘Time Is Running Out!’ Karl Rove Sounds Alarm Over Ken Paxton Flailing Against James Talarico

Fox News contributor and Republican strategist Karl Rove sounded the alarm over Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s (R) struggling Texas Senate campaign Wednesday, warning that “time is running out” for the GOP nominee to turn the race around as Texas state Rep. James Talarico (D) continues to dominate him in fundraising and advertising.

Rove was speaking with the network’s Brian Kilmeade on Wednesday’s edition of the Brian Kilmeade Show.

Kilmeade pointed to comments Paxton’s Republican primary opponent, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), made to The Texas Tribune last week. The senator told the paper that he doesn’t plan to lend a helping hand to Paxton in the race, adding, “He’s lazy and doesn’t raise money. And he basically is not offering a very compelling case for his election.”

He also brought up an appearance by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) on the network Tuesday, in which he urged President Donald Trump to “do more” with his super PAC, MAGA Inc., to help Paxton, with Fox News host Martha MacCallum adding that Talarico has “got $21 million versus Ken Paxton’s, I think, one or two million.”

Describing Paxton’s latest schedule, Rove told Kilmeade, “He was in Washington the week before the Fourth of July, on that weekend. No fundraiser that I can find. And then on Tuesday, he was seen leaving for Iceland with his latest girlfriend, and then the two of them spent the Fourth of July celebrating in London, England… If he wanted to go to London, he should have gone to London, Texas.”

Rove went on to credit Trump’s endorsement for allowing Paxton to win the primary, claiming he would have lost without it. He then echoed Thune’s call for MAGA Inc. funds, stressing, “He needs to come in!”

“Time is running out!” Rove concluded. “If the president wants to have Paxton win, he needs to be tossing a lot of money Paxton’s way.”

If not, he said, Talarico will “run the message of ‘my opponent is the most corrupt politician in Texas history’ all the way to the victory line.”

Notably, Paxton’s campaign has had no shortage of scandals. He’s faced questions about alleged voter fraud, lavish vacations, as Rove referenced, with what some call his “mistress,” his office’s plea deal with child sex predator Adam Hoffman, and more.
