‘The Office’ Star Confronts Hunter Biden Over Meme Coin Flop: I Was ‘Very Disappointed’

Actor Rainn Wilson confronted former first son Hunter Biden over his ill-fated meme coin venture, telling him he was “personally” left “very disappointed” by the project.

Biden launched the laptop-themed $LAPTOP meme coin on Sept. 9, only for its value to collapse within hours. The coin opened at $37.26 and briefly surged to $222.75 before plunging roughly 95% to $1.86 by around 11 a.m. ET. Biden and other owners reportedly held 30% of the coins issued, while another 20% was earmarked for people who lost money on President Donald Trump’s meme coin, among others.

The former first son joined Wilson, best known for playing “Dwight Schrute” in NBC’s The Office, on Thursday’s edition of his podcast, Soul Boom.

“I personally was very disappointed to hear about your crypto venture and $LAPTOP and how it collapsed,” noted the actor. “How did you come to the idea that this was gonna be a great idea, even though it’s crashed and burned across any kind of political or public figure who’s done it?”

Wilson then added, “This atmosphere of crypto ventures is grotesque and chaotic, and how do you justify what you did?”

“It hasn’t completely crashed and burned,” protested Biden. “It still exists.”

After then acknowledging that Wilson is “right” in his critiques, the former first son continued, “The tokenomics of my coin are literally flipped — the reverse of every other celebrity meme coin and thing that’s been out there… I don’t benefit in any way.”

He then explained that he plans to “give away… 20 percent of the entire value of the coin to the community.”

Emphasizing that while he “believe[s] in cryptocurrency and the blockchain,” he claimed that his main goal with $LAPTOP was to “troll Trump.”

Wilson pushed back, though, that he instead did the opposite, remarking, “Millions of people think that you just tried to game the system, the same as one of the Trumps, and everyone has lost their wallets.”
