Scott Galloway Tells Bill Maher He Believes the US is Sexist and Racist in Debate Over 2028 Dem Nominee

Author and NYU professor Scott Galloway told comedian Bill Maher that he believed the U.S. was a “sexist, racist country” as he justified his prediction that California Governor Gavin Newsom would not only be the 2028 Democratic nominee but the next president.

Galloway appeared on his Club Random podcast in an episode that dropped Monday, where what began as a joking discussion about poor prospects of balding presidential candidates pivoted into a wider critique of how the U.S. selects its prospective nominees.

After a playful exchange where Galloway complimented Maher’s hair, joking he’d be “pulling number four for the Democratic nomination for president right now” if he had it, the guest pivoted hard into his 2028 prediction.

“I think Gavin Newsom is going to be our president,” he said, continuing: “I think we’re a looks-ist, sexist, racist country and the only thing I’m fairly confident about is that the Democratic nominee will be a straight white man over 6 feet tall.”

Maher pressed: “Do you think in general the country is racist and sexist in 2026?”

“Yeah,” Galloway replied.

“That characterizes us in a general way?” the host pressed.

“Well, OK, I don’t see any reason why Secretary [Hillary] Clinton lost to Donald Trump other than sexism. I think if she’d had a d*ck, she’d be our president,” the guest doubled down.

“I mean, I’m a fan. You know, I always thought Hillary would be good. She’s one of the most sort of common-sensical people I’ve ever seen in politics,” Maher noted.

Galloway added: “Confident, smart, centrist.”

“Smart. Yes. Centrist,” Maher said. “Yeah. But I also see why she lost, why she rubs people the wrong way.”

Maher continued, pointing to instances on the campaign trail in which Clinton, he argued, failed to connect with voters – citing a specific visit to “coal country” and promising green energy alternatives. Later, Maher said, she “backtracked,” which created an even bigger problem.

“It was like you lost already,” he said of Clinton. “Trump says a thousand things that are worse, but he never apologizes for any of them.”

Galloway bemoaned the unforgiving nature of the backlash and, without returning to his argument, added that conservative news media attacks any potential Democratic nominee “24 by 7.”
