‘Scared to Show Up!’ Stephen A. Smith Says Only Liberals Reject His Show Invitations — While Republicans ‘All Accept’

Stephen A. Smith claimed liberals consistently “run” from the opportunity to speak on his show, while Republicans almost always accept the offer.

Smith made the claim on Friday’s episode of the podcast The Culture Table. Joined by co-hosts Tori Cooper, Sumatra Abernathy, and Ashley Christopher, Smith accused his left-wing critics of refusing to appear on his show.

During their talk, Cooper suggested that Smith’s pivot to political commentary “may require a different approach” in comparison to the way he handles sports topics. In response, Smith said:

My approach is addressed when I bring you you on the show, giving you the platform, respectfully asking you questions, and letting you answer; and the only people that run for me are liberals. The GOP, the right, don’t run. They all accept either immediately or tentatively. Am I lying, Solange? It’s always the liberals that– the same people that stir this shit up [are] scared to show up on the show! They don’t show up!

Days earlier, Smith called out several prominent Democrats for not responding to his invitations — including Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), former Vice President Kamala Harris, and Don Lemon. His comments came in the wake of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) giving him the “Thumbs Down” award at a recent ceremony. The organization says Smith was chosen for his “recurring public pattern” of disparaging Black women. Smith has fought back against the narrative, accusing the NABJ of simply being unhappy with his criticism of Democrats.
