Ex-FBI Director Explains Not Giving ‘Scalp’ to Trump By Handing Over List of FBI Agents Who Worked on Jan. 6 Cases 

Former Acting FBI director Brian Driscoll opened up to MS NOW’s Nicolle Wallace about being asked by President Donald Trump’s administration to provide a list of FBI agents involved in cases around the January 6 Capitol riot.

Driscoll, in his second solo interview, joined Wallace on The Best People with Nicolle Wallace podcast to discuss his time heading the FBI.

BRIAN DRISCOLL: Now, eventually, you know, I was surrounded by very brilliant attorneys on the FBI side, a lot of former prosecutors who reflected that after I was internally, very resistant, and I was willing to provide a list with one name, my own. and that’s not, I’m not saying that to be like, “Look at me, I’m a martyr.” Not at all. But that’s-”

NICOLLE WALLACE: Just to give them a scalp.

DRISCOLL: Yeah. And just now I was surrounded by very wise counsel that said, “You know what’s gonna happen as soon as you do that.” I say, “Yeah, and I’m at peace with that.” However, it was explained to me – it’s a legal order. You have to follow the order. So that’s where I was gonna say, “Okay, my name. Boom. There’s a list.” And then, it was reflected that, okay, you do that, you’re fired today, very potentially. And then potentially a political appointee will take your place, and then everybody could go. And so I said I’m not willing to accept that, and so we came up with other ways to get there.

Driscoll was the acting director of the FBI for one month. During that time, Driscoll was instructed by then-Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to potentially fire FBI agents involved in cases related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and Driscoll refused. Driscoll filed a lawsuit last year over what he alleges was a wrongful termination.
