Don Lemon Says Trump Has Kept ‘Pretty Much Every Promise’ He’s Made on Policy

Independent journalist Don Lemon offered a striking assessment of President Donald Trump’s second term, arguing that the president has followed through on “pretty much every promise” he made on policy.

The former CNN host made the comments on Wednesday’s edition of Who’s With Me?, a podcast hosted by fellow CNN alum W. Kamau Bell.

Bell had asked Lemon for his thoughts on Trump’s repeated musings about seeking a third term in 2028, which the Constitution prohibits. Trump has said he would “love to run” and even donned a “Trump 2028” hat during the make-up White House Correspondents’ Dinner in July, though he has also acknowledged that while “everybody wants me to do it,” “the law is very strong.”

Instead, he’s resorted to pleading with Republicans to “pretend I’m on the ballot” in the upcoming midterm elections.

“How seriously do you take it when Trump starts to play footsies with the idea of Trump 2028?” wondered Bell.

“I think you always take the person who is the president of the United States seriously,” Lemon responded. “Pretty much every promise he has made — pretty much, like policy-wise — he has delivered.”

Lemon continued, “He’s said, ‘Look what I’m gonna do with immigration. I’m gonna do this with taxes. I’m gonna do this with healthcare.’ And he did all of them. The only thing that he hasn’t been able to deliver on is pretty much the economy.”

“I was gonna say,” interjected Bell. “The ones that people would love him to deliver on are lowering gas prices, no more foreign wars.”

“Lower the price of goods,” Lemon added. “‘I’m gonna give you a DOGE check. I’m gonna give you a tariff rebate or refund check.’ None of those things have come to fruition, and those are the things that people want.”

After discussing what Bell called the president’s “bribe[s]” for a beat, Lemon got back to the question at hand, explaining, “Yeah, I take it seriously. Look, he’s got a Supreme Court that is basically under his thumb. He’s definitely gonna try, and no one has been able to stop him.”
