Dave Portnoy Called for Bombing Greta Thunberg in Same Podcast He Said Free Speech Should Not Apply to Violent Jokes
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy called for a missile strike on climate activist Greta Thunberg during a Wednesday podcast in which he also warned that inflammatory speech can fuel anti-Semitic violence.
The comments were made on The Unnamed Show podcast hosted by Kirk Minihane and Ryan Whitney. The episode began with a debate about anti-Semitic jokes, with Portnoy saying certain speech goes beyond humor and can inspire real-world harm.
“I do think words matter,” Portnoy said during a heated exchange with Minihane. “You just can’t make jokes that incite hate. We’ve seen what that leads to.”
But later in the conversation, the tone shifted dramatically as the hosts mocked Thunberg’s involvement in a humanitarian mission to Gaza.
Thunberg, 21, is currently sailing toward the region with the group Break the Siege, which aims to deliver aid and draw international attention to Gaza
Thunberg’s group set sail from Sicily, Italy, this week with plans to reach Gaza via the Mediterranean. The initiative includes activists from around the world.
The boat is carrying medical supplies and aims to break through the Israeli naval blockade that has restricted goods and travel in and out of Gaza since 2007.
Portnoy ridiculed Thunberg and her mission, delivering a profane and violent remark.
After Whitney joked that Jews control the media, Portnoy said they were not doing a good enough job.
“It is crazy, though. If we’re being honest, this is also in my holster. Jews control the media. It’s like, well, we’re not doing a good job of it right now. You’re fucking it up,” he said.
He concluded, “I’ll jump on Greta van Thorsten or whatever that girl’s – she’s sailing there. Like whoever that fuck – and I hope they hit a fucking like a missile on her boat. Knock that boat down. Greta or whatever her name is.”
