Bill Maher Laughs in George Santos’ Face Over Wild Defense of Trump’s ‘Lies’
Bill Maher heartily chuckled in the face of disgraced former congressman George Santos as the latter defended President Donald Trump’s history of stretching the truth.
Santos sat down with Maher on this week’s Club Random podcast, where a frequent topic was lying — and Maher did not hold back on his criticism of the former congressman, whose time in the House was cut short after he was slapped with a 13-count federal indictment on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and making false statements to Congress.
Santos was sentenced to 87 months in prison, but Trump later commuted his sentence.
At one point during the interview, which dropped on Monday, Maher pointed at Trump as the commander in chief who “has told more lies than all the presidents combined.”
Santos shot back: “I don’t know that that’s true though.”
“Well, you do know it’s true,” Maher insisted. “You know that even his fans say, ‘We take him seriously. Not literally.’ He just, you know that he just pulls stuff out of his ass whenever he wants to.”
Santos then uttered an explanation that left Maher flabbergasted.
“How about this? Is it a lie, or is it a strategic, like disruption of the matrix, right? Like I feel — and I’m not making excuses — but I’m going to throw this at you.”
In response, Maher laughed in Santos’ face.
“Try that in a relationship,” he said before presenting a scenario. “‘Honey, I’m not f*cking the cocktail waitress. It’s a rupture in the matrix.'”
As Santos tried to explain, Maher effectively shut him down, saying: “Well, it kinda is what you’re saying. We’re redefining lying now.”
