‘You Made It Sound So Interesting!’ The View’s Sara Haines Explains Her Absence After Joy Behar Kerfuffle
Sara Haines was back on The View Thursday after Wednesday’s absence created a mystery that was egged on by Joy Behar.
The exchange on Wednesday’s show went like this:
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: As you see, Sara’s out today. She’ll be with us maybe tomorrow. We’ll see. But there’s lots to talk about–
JOY BEHAR: She’s not sick.
GOLDBERG: OK.
BEHAR: Because people get worried when somebody disappears, which is not–
GOLDBERG: Yeah, but you just– all we’ve gotta tell them is that she’s not here. They’re noticing, but we mention it because we don’t want them to think we don’t notice it. You know what I mean? So that’s why we say what you already can see.
On Thursday, Haines addressed her absence straight away.
“I wanted to share why I was missing yesterday,” Haines began. “My father-in-law passed away. He’s been in hospice for a week, so we knew it was coming, but I think the second that landed it kind of allowed a load you’re carrying for so long to just like gush out.”
Haines grew emotional, and spoke about her husband, attorney Max Shifrin.
“Max has been gone. He hasn’t seen the kids, and now he’s finally back, and we’re pouring love into him, but it was the most important person in Max’s life,” Haines said.
“And I think I learned about this man on my first date because it was everything that led — it was Max’s north star, so it’s the chapter we’re in, and we all will be a part of this club eventually, but, wow, it’s brutal.”
Haines continued, “But just to quell any rumors flying around, I found out right…before the show yesterday.”
BEHAR: We started, Whoopi and I, the rumors.
HAINES: Yeah, because Joy, you’re the queen of, “Well, she’s not sick but she’s somewhere.”
ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: You made it sound scandalous!
HAINES: You made it sound so interesting I almost didn’t want to ruin it with the truth.
BEHAR: I didn’t want people to think you were sick.
HAINES: Oh, no, no. Heart sick, head sick, but not —
BEHAR: Do something good and this is what you get. No good deed goes unpunished.
HAINES: Joy, I can use the levity right now. Keep it coming, girl.
