White House Reportedly Set to Hold First Press Briefing Since Karoline Leavitt’s Departure

The White House has scheduled a press briefing for later this week, the first to be held in more than a month, according to a report.

Tuesday marked 40 days since the administration held a press briefing, noted NBC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Garrett Haake. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt exited her post last week, and her replacement has yet to be named.

Shortly after Haake publicly noted the 40-day mark without a national press corps briefing, he returned to X with an update.

“The White House is expected to hold a press briefing on Thursday, a White House official tells me. This will be the first briefing since July 23rd,” he wrote. “No word on who will brief- but during Karoline Leavitt’s leave, several cabinet secretaries & even the VP took turns at podium.”

Leavitt announced her unexpected exit from the position on Aug. 12, sending shockwaves through the political landscape.

The 29-year-old Leavitt said she was leaving the job to spend more time with her two young kids, and recently returned to the post after taking maternity leave after the birth of her second child.

She unsuccessfully ran for Congress representing New Hampshire in 2022 before becoming Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign spokesperson.

Leavitt was then tapped in 2025 at age 27 to become the youngest ever press secretary.

One name floated as Leavitt’s potential replacement has been CNN conservative pundit Scott Jennings, who has denied wanting the position.

However, Jennings had reportedly sent clips of himself defending top presidential aide Natalie Harp to the White House in a bid for the job, Politico reported.

Jennings had fiercely criticized Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) after Ossoff’s mention of Harp at a campaign rally last month went viral.

Ossoff had quipped Trump would rather “travel with Natalie” than carry out his duties as president.

The pundit had insisted, “I am really outraged,” after others on CNN derided his passionate response to the controversy.
