WATCH: Trump Rally Goes Stone Silent as Mike Rogers Awkwardly Waits for Applause After Dig at El-Sayed

Michigan Senate candidate Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) heard nothing but crickets from a Trump rally crowd when he made a joke at the expense of his opponent, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed (D).

“And now, he’s accepted campaign donations from organizations, as I said, and even the literal spokesmen from the Muslim Brotherhood,” Rogers said. “I’ll tell you, as a former FBI agent, I can tell you, we would call that a clue.”

Rogers’s “applause line” fell flat, and he looked around the crowd before chuckling to himself. The crowd then finally figured out they were expected to applaud, which they finally did.

“But we sure know that Abdul El-Sayed does not belong anywhere near the United States Senate, and certainly not representing us here,” Rogers added.

Rogers may have gotten his claims about the Muslim Brotherhood from the right-wing Washington Free Beacon.

“Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has raked in thousands of dollars in campaign donations from individuals linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, the radical Islamist and terrorist movement, campaign finance records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon show,” the outlet reported earlier this month.

“El-Sayed’s donors include the former spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood’s official political party in Egypt as well as individuals named in a directory of Muslim Brotherhood leaders that federal investigators submitted as part of a landmark terror financing trial,” the report said.

El-Sayed has said he “absolutely” disavows the Muslim Brotherhood, which is considered a terrorist organization, and has condemned Rogers’s allegations.

El-Sayed hasn’t publicly addressed individual donations made to his campaign.

Shortly after Rogers spoke, President Donald Trump repeated the Muslim Brotherhood claims, called El-Sayed a jihadist, and claimed he wanted to install Sharia Law in the United States.

“He would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he’s allowed to go into the Senate. I want him to have a metal detector,” Trump said. “If Abdul gets to the Senate he would have access to our nation’s national security, and his vote would wield power over our military, our borders, our Homeland Security, and much more with that.”
