WATCH: Heart-Stopping Footage of 2 Jets Flying Dangerously Close to a Stadium Goes Viral

Footage of two passenger jets coming dangerously close to the top of a stadium in South Africa has gone viral.

The shocking video shows two regional aircraft from South African airline Airlink flying over DHL Stadium in Cape Town prior to a rugby match between New Zealand and South Africa. According to the tracking website FlightData24, one of the two jets was less than 50 feet above the roof of the stadium. In all, the FlightData24 pegged the aircraft’s altitude at 205-210 feet above ground.

The footage promptly went viral on social media:

The airline, though, insisted the daring stunt went as planned.

“The flight demanded careful planning and rehearsal, as it required navigating at low altitude, at around 150 knots. The South African Civil Aviation Authority and Air Traffic Navigation Services provided valuable guidance, approval and support to ensure a safe flyby,” Airlink said in a statement. “The two aircraft were flown by highly-experienced crew, with each comprised of three senior captains operating in the roles of commander, co-pilot and safety/technical officer. “The flight data recorded by both aircraft confirms that the flights were performed within the SACAA’s approved and rehearsed safety altitude and speed limits for the flypast.”
