Washington Post Journalist Says MAGA Is Frustrated With Markwayne Mullin Amid ICE Deportations

MAGA voters and supporters are “frustrated there aren’t more” deportations, and they’re increasingly frustrated with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, The Washington Post’s Dan Merica told MS Now’s Katy Tur.

“I sort of think the MAGA commentariat and the grassroots, I mean, they want deportations,” Merica said.

He continued, “I mean, they are frustrated that there aren’t more. You know, they, in many ways, many of these personalities hated Milo Yiannopoulos because of various things he had done to them personally. So they were quite happy to see him deported.”

British far-right commentator Yiannopoulos was detained by ICE authorities on Aug. 28 and ultimately deported.

MAGA supporters also “want to see a lot more” deportations, Merica added.

As he put it:

But they want to see a lot more, you know, and I think there’s a frustration with Markwayne Mullin, this idea that he hasn’t been as hardcore in a visible way as they would like to see. I mean, they call him Markwayne Muslim, which, you know, as an insult, doesn’t exactly make sense here, given what we’re discussing.

On Aug. 28, DHS announced ICE had deported more undocumented immigrants “in the last week.”

“Every day, the brave men and women of ICE put themselves at risk to arrest and remove illegal aliens from our communities,” Mullin said in a statement. “Last week, ICE deported murderers, rapists, and arsonists. Under President Trump’s leadership, we will always put the safety of the American people first. If you’re here illegally, we will find you, arrest you, and deport you.”

There has been no shortage of stories about what happens to the people detained and deported by ICE. Leonardo Sánchez, who was sent to West Africa, told The New York Times he was “cuffed around his wrists and ankles” and that a “chain around his waist dug into his grossly protruding abdomen, the result of years-old wounds and surgeries that doctors said left his intestines barely inside his body.”

Sánchez, who is 49-years-old, is Cuban.
