Vance Tells Fox’s Peter Doocy He Doesn’t Care About Assigning Blame for Inflation — Right After Blaming Biden

Vice President JD Vance insisted Thursday he didn’t want to cast blame on anyone for inflation. Then, he blamed former President Joe Biden.

During the afternoon’s White House press briefing, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy said that voters were “looking for somebody to blame for high prices on things like gas, energy.”

Doocy then asked Vance voters shouldn’t blame the Republican Party, which has controlled every branch of the government since President Donald Trump’s win in 2024.

Vance prefaced his response by saying he didn’t intend to “cast blame” on anyone and that he didn’t “really care who’s to blame for it.” He went on to talk about the previous administration’s role in rising inflation, saying:

First of all, if you look at how endemic inflation became during the Biden administration — and this is not to cast blame because I don’t really care who’s to blame for it. I care about how to fix it, and that’s what we’ve been working to do. So, inflation under the last administration hit a record high of about 9.5%; and it’s funny during the 2024 campaign, the president and I would say this is the highest inflation in American history, and people would come back and say, “No, no, no, it’s not the highest inflation in American history, it’s just the highest inflation in the last 60 or the last 48 years. It’s like, well, that’s still very, very bad. So what happened with that is that when prices get baked in like that, it takes a little bit of time for us to undo some of the damage.

Thursday’s briefing was the first in the White House in over a month and a half, and it was the first since former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stepped down. The 29-year-old made the decision to spend more time with family, and the White House has not indicated who will succeed her.

CNN commentator Scott Jennings has reportedly thrown his hat in the ring, but he’s repeatedly downplayed that speculation when asked by his colleagues. Trump, on the other hand, was “not quite sold” on Jennings.
