Vance Pressed About Trump’s AI-Generated Video of Kharg Island Destruction: ‘Why Did the President Tweet That?’

Vice President JD Vance was peppered with questions about President Donald Trump’s inflammatory social media post depicting the destruction of Iran’s Kharg Island.

The video, which showed a helicopter pilot watching multiple explosions consume the island, was shared on Truth Social by Trump on Sunday night with the words, “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!”

Vance was asked about the video before he headed to Michigan to address the Republican Jewish Commission.

“On Iran, the president tweeted some AI-generated video of bombing of Kharg Island. Was that meant to be a warning? Or what was the messaging there? Why did the president tweet that?” a reporter asked.

“Well, you know the president likes to switch it up on social media a little bit,” Vance replied. “He would be first to say he doesn’t make announcements about military actions on social media, but I think that he’s sending a message to the Iranians.”

He added: “Look, we know that they continue to shoot at commercial shipping. We continue to have a lot of tools at our disposal to prevent them from doing so, or at least cut down on them from doing so. And that’s what the president is saying is, ‘Look, you are shooting at commercial shipping. You guys are behaving like a terrorist country. You’ve gotta stop, or there will be some consequences.'”

Vance’s comments came a day after U.S. forces struck the Islamic Republic for the first time in weeks, an offensive that took out Iranian rocket launchers near the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Central Command called the operation a “limited, precise” action against Revolutionary Guard mine-laying forces posing an “imminent threat” in the strategic oil pipeline.

Iran later retaliated with a ballistic missile strike directed at two U.S. bases in Jordan, according to the Revolutionary Guard. Jordanian forces successfully intercepted eight missiles in its airspace.
