Trump Wants To Speak For ’15 Minutes’ Before Presidents Cup Final Tee-Off: Report

President Donald Trump has reportedly requested to make a speech before tee-off for the decisive matches at the Presidents Club golf tournament in Medinah, Illinois, on Sunday.

Golfweek reported that Trump made the unusual request of the PGA Tour to speak “for 15 minutes” at the first tee before the final matches. Neither the Tour, nor the White House confirmed that Trump asked for the time to make a speech, the report said.

Although, President Bill Clinton spoke for about six minutes before the tournament’s opening ceremony in 2000, a review of previous Presidents Cups found no instances of presidents speaking at all before the final rounds, let alone for a full 15 minutes.

Trump announced on Truth Social in August that he had accepted the PGA Tour’s invitation to be the Honorary Chairman of the Presidents Cup for a second time, which only President Barack Obama had done before him.

The Golfweek article quoted PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp saying at the time, “The Presidents Cup has a proud tradition of engaging world leaders from across the globe and across political lines, and President Trump’s involvement continues that legacy.”

The PGA Tour, which owns and operates the event, responded to Golfweek’s request for comment by saying only that it’s “preparing for Trump’s potential visit.” The White House did not confirm the report.

Sunday will be the second professional sports outing for Trump this weekend. On Saturday, the president flew to Tennessee for the red state rivalry football game between the top-ranked Texas Longhorns and Tennessee Volunteers.

During an interview with Outkick’s Clay Travis, Trump raved about Longhorns’ quarterback Arch Manning’s “great genetics.”

Arch Manning is the sibling of retired NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning.

“Well, he’s already looking really good and I know the brothers and they’re fantastic. They’re fantastic people. Great quarterbacks and great football players. And he’s got great genetics, I would say. If you’re gonna go for genetics, you can’t do much better. And he’s playing pretty well today,” Trump said of the younger brother’s chances for the NFL.
