Trump Unveils New Uniforms For His Space Force ‘Inspired’ By Militaristic Sci-Fi Flick

President Donald Trump revealed the look he’s after for the new Space Force uniforms, which he revealed was inspired by the militaristic sci-fi movie “Starship Troopers” that took an ironic look at fascism, according to at least one film critic.

Trump posted the AI-generated rendering on Truth Social over the weekend, saying the design was “Inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Trooper uniform, modernized for the guardians of the space domain.”

The look features a color palette of “space gray, midnight black, silver gray, and satin black,” as well as knee-high jackboots.

The 1997 Paul Verhoeven-directed movie was considered a box office flop at the time, but has since become a cult classic.  The film famously preserved and satirized the “fascist utopianism” of the 1959 Robert A Heinlein novel it was based on.

In 2022, The Guardian’s Ben Child wrote, “Twenty-five years on, it is hard to see how anyone watching Starship Troopers at the time, let alone film critics with knowledge of its director’s previous work, failed to spot that Verhoeven was doing irony.”

Child continued:

The movie imagines a future in which Earth’s Terran Federation is united in militaristic, fascistic hatred of the alien “bugs”, an insect-like alien race with which it is in open warfare. Verhoeven cast gorgeous ingenues such as Beverly Hills 90210’s Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer and Denise Richards in a nod to Leni Riefenstahl’s Nazi propaganda films and their depiction of flourishing, square-jawed Aryan youth. The film even features regular propaganda clips, disguised as news reports of the latest crushing human victories. At one point Neil Patrick Harris wears a uniform so reminiscent of an SS officer’s that he was reputedly known on set as “Doogie Himmler” whenever he wore it.

(“Doogie Howser” was the TV role that made Harris famous, while Himmler, of course, was the sadistic Nazi and Hitler henchman, Heinrich Himmler.)

It’s that uniform “so reminiscent of an SS officer’s” that Trump is proposing for the new sixth branch of the military that he created during his first term — the satire seemingly having been lost on the president of the United States.
