Trump Swats Down AI Regulation, Urges ‘Tremendous Self-Policing’ Among ‘Super Intelligence’ Companies

President Donald Trump told reporters in front of the White House on Tuesday the artificial intelligence summit he just hosted with tech execs like Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg did not change his mind one bit — he does not want to regulate AI anytime soon.

Instead, Trump said he is depending on AI companies to continue with their “tremendous self-policing.” But he did float one possibility: a new government board to oversee the AI industry, which he said could include several of the CEOs he just lunched with.

“We’re also thinking about forming a committee of sorts, where we put, maybe ten people on that committee — it could be from that group — so the committee can watch over the whole enterprise,” Trump said.

Trump delivered the message while flanked by Nvidia boss Jensen Huang and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), as Musk crossed his arms and stood a few feet behind.

His comments came shortly after he wrapped up the meeting with Musk and a number of other tech bigwigs, including: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Palantir CEO Alex Karp, Google head honcho Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.

And one big name conspicuously absent: OpenAI chief Sam Altman.

Tuesday’s powwow comes after AI has been a hot topic lately, following Amodei’s warning “we must slow down the pace” of AI development to make sure it doesn’t go rogue and hurt humans. Musk and Altman — two rivals who rarely agree on anything in public — quickly endorsed his take.

Trump has went the other way and scoffed at the doomsday fears about AI, saying they are nothing more than a “HOAX.”He has said he’s not even a big fan of the term “artificial intelligence” — instead opting to call it “super intelligence.”

The president vowed he will not burden AI companies with new regulations, arguing it is imperative American companies stay ahead of China in the AI race; he said the best defense against AI going off the rails was having a a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT” like himself in the Oval Office.

Trump reiterated he believed the worst-case scenario projections about AI are a “hoax” on Tuesday — and that he believed Democrats are cynically pushing it, just like they pushed global warming on the masses.

“I think they would love to see it shut down,” Trump said.
