Trump Pours Cold Water on Report Pete Hegseth is Considering 2028 Run: ‘It’s Very Early’

President Donald Trump poured cold water on a report that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been floating a presidential run to friends and associates.

During a press gaggle in the Oval Office on Monday afternoon, the president was confronted about the NBC News report from Friday which stated Hegseth and his wife have discussed a possible bid with close allies.

“Have you seen the reports that Secretary Hegseth is considering a 2028 run and could you see yourself supporting him?” A reporter asked.

“Well, I think he’s doing a fantastic job, but it’s very early to talk about that,” Trump replied. “We have to get through the midterms first. And I think he’s a very good guy. But I bet there’s a lot of people considering it that you don’t know about. You know, you probably have you have a lot people.”

Trump, though, did go to bat for Hegseth — amid recent reporting that he has been frustrated with his Defense Secretary over ongoing munitions shortages.

“He’s done a great job,” Trump said. “And right now, all he loves is and all he cares about is the military and taking care of the military. And we went into Venezuela. We won. We went in to Iran, and we’re beating the hell out of them. And doing a good job.”
