Trump Names Pastor Darrell Scott as Tobacco Health Adviser to CDC

President Donald Trump has announced that Pastor Darrell Scott will join his team on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory team on tobacco-related health issues.

Scott, a friend of the president who founded the New Spirit Revival Center in Ohio in 1982, was named to the role in a lengthy, praise-filled Truth Social post on Tuesday.

“I am pleased to announce that Pastor Darrell Scott, a longtime friend, respected Faith Leader, and tireless Advocate for America’s Underserved Communities, will be serving my Administration and me as an Advisor for tobacco health issues on the Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD) in the CDC,” Trump said. “For far too long, tobacco-related disease has taken an enormous toll on American Families, including Communities that have too often been overlooked and underserved.

It’s unclear what experience, if any, Scott has for the role, but Trump said that the pastor “understands these Communities, and the challenges they face, and he knows how to bring people together to get RESULTS.”

Calling Scott a “GREAT LEADER,” Trump added that his work “will help ensure that we take a serious look at how we can better protect Americans from dangerous tobacco products, while supporting solutions to reduce harm and SAVE LIVES.”

Scott, a staunch defender of the president on cable news over the years, has been on Team Trump since he mounted his first presidential campaign in 2015.

When Trump won the 2016 election over Hillary Clinton, Scott joined Trump’s presidential transition team.
