Trump Confronted About Lara Trump’s Prediction That Iran ‘Could Cost’ Him the Midterms

President Donald Trump took a positive stance regarding the Iran war’s impact on the upcoming midterm elections when asked about his daughter-in-law’s more gloomy prediction.

During a White House gaggle Thursday, a reporter asked, “Lara Trump said today that the Iran war may threaten the midterm for you. She said that last night. That it could tank the midterms. Do you agree with her or disagree with that?”

“Well, it’s possible,” Trump said, before doing an about-face and declaring, “It should help.”

“Because Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “So when you say, ‘Is it okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon?’ I would say 100% of the people say no, including worldwide. So, when you say it that way, it would help. If you don’t say that, it could hurt.”

Lara Trump made the comments on the YouTube show, Harry Cole Saves the West, when asked about her outlook on the midterms.

“Well, it could cost him these midterms,” she replied about the war. “I think Donald Trump’s legacy has yet to be written and I think that, in a lot of ways, maybe — I still say he’s going to go down in history as one of the greatest presidents — if not, the greatest America has ever seen.”

Later in the interview, Lara Trump said the president, “really hates the way that things have gone with Iran,” and wished that “things had more swiftly happened.”

“But you’re right, the Iranians are absolutely holding out until these midterm elections,” Lara Trump said. “They want to do everything they can to damage this president’s hopes of these midterms going his way because they think it’s going to give them an advantage.”

In a New York Times opinion piece, science writer David Wallace-Wells wrote that the Iran war “hangs like perhaps the most obvious albatross among many around Trump’s neck.”

“Only one-third of the country approves of Trump’s handling of the war, according to recent polling,” Wallace-Wells wrote. “But even worse is the effect Americans believe it has had on what they say is their most important issue — and what has become Trump’s worst one. Eight in 10 Americans say the war has raised the cost of living.”

“And what we see in the polls from the first weeks of September is very clear: a big blue surge on top of what looked already like a big blue wave,” Wallace-Wells continued. “Polling averages now put Democrats further ahead this cycle than in the major wave election in 2018.”
