New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, noted on social media Thursday that the president’s poll numbers are cratering to the same kind of lows Joe Biden saw after his disastrous Afghanistan pullout.
Trump has long attacked Biden over the Afghanistan pullout, and Devine’s comment is certain to hit the very poll-conscious Trump where it hurts.
“Donald Trump’s polls since launching the Iran war are looking a lot like Joe Biden’s after his botched Afghanistan withdrawal,” wrote Devine on social media while posting two RealClearPolitics graphs.
The first graph showed President Biden’s overall average approval rating and highlighted the August 2021 flip, where Biden’s numbers went from a net approval to a net disapproval – ending with a 57% to 39% disapproval rating as he left office.

The second graph showed President Trump’s overall average approval rating, which showed Trump going underwater early in his first term and currently at a 56% to 41% disapproval rating.

Devine, pointing out Trump’s worsening numbers, may be offering a kind of warning to the president, who has been a recent guest on her friendly podcast.
Time Magazine reported on Thursday that Trump Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is “concerned aides were giving the President a rose-colored view of how the war was being perceived domestically, telling Trump what he wanted to hear instead of what he needed to hear. She had urged colleagues, the officials say, to be ‘more forthright with the boss’ about the political and economic risks.”
