Tom Homan Claims He’s ‘Not Aware’ of Any Trump Admin Plans to Send ICE to Polling Locations
ICE head Tom Homan told CBS News he’s “not aware” of any plans to send the organization’s officers to polling locations during this year’s midterms, but added, “That would be a question for DHS.”
When asked what the purpose of sending the officers might be, Homan deflected: “That’s a question for [Secretary of Homeland Security] Markwayne Mullin.”
He also said, “I’m not aware of it. I can’t rule it out, but I don’t know. I’m not aware of it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Homan dodged a second question about the record number of people who have died in ICE custody in 2026, which he dismissed as “another loaded question against the Trump administration.”
The Associated Press reported Friday that “organizations who represent Latino, Black and Asian American voters say the rhetoric and ICE’s own activity make them worried at a time the number of immigration arrests is soaring as President Donald Trump carries out his mass deportation agenda.”
An August analysis by Politico found that the president’s immigration enforcement tactics have fostered an “all-out siege” on the courts that has “stretched the judiciary to the breaking point.” But, Politico also reported, judges have ruled against Trump nearly 17,000 times.
More specifically, many have taken issue with the Trump administration’s “seemingly mundane reinterpretation of a complex immigration law” that changed how people are detained in an “unprecedented way,” Politico noted. Reporter Kyle Cheney “reviewed thousands of ICE detention cases and spoke with more than a dozen detainees, lawyers and judges at the heart of this historic controversy.”
Polling also reveals that people across the political spectrum have grown critical of the president’s policies.
In February, two polls revealed the majority of Americans disapproved of ICE, and that they wanted then-DHS Secretary Kristi Noem out. Noem was fired from her role and appointed as the Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas by the president.
