Todd Blanche Outraged That Schools are ‘Hiding’ Trans Kids’s Names From Parents

The Department of Justice is suing the Kansas City public school district for allegedly calling children by non-birth names, “presumably to affirm” their “gender transformation,” while keeping parents in the dark, according to Fox News’s Laura Ingraham.

On Wednesday’s night’s Ingraham Angle, the host spoke with Attorney General Todd Blanche about the name change brouhaha.

“Seventy-million-dollars in federal funding is reportedly on the line,” Ingraham said, as she introduced Blanche.

“Now, the federal law involved is called FERPA, that’s the acronym, and the schools maintain they are not violating federal law, sir, because, I guess the name change that they are hiding from the parents is not part of the, quote, ‘education record’ that federal law requires parents to be kept aware of.”

“Well, I mean, so think about that,” Blanche began. “The most fundamental thing about an individual child is their name, and you have this school district claiming that, ‘Oh, FERPA doesn’t cover that.’ That when Congress passed this law they weren’t talking about something as fundamental as a child’s name. We very much disagree with that. We very much think this is exactly the type of conduct that when Congress passed this law they expected school districts to inform parents.”

Blanche continued:

By the way, fact that you and I are talking about this, Laura, is incredible. The fact we’re talking about a school district keeping from parents something as fundamental as a child’s name, and we had to sue, we had to sue the school district to get them to do the right thing. It’s shocking, and we tried to work it out with them before we filed suit like we’re doing with many districts around the country, and unfortunately, they refused to comply with the law, which is why we brought this action this week.

“I mean, I get a call from my son’s school if he has a headache,” Ingraham said. “But they’re not gonna call about a name change? A desire to change his name? I don’t think so!”

“There is not a parent in America, no matter where you live, that would want their school to change and call their child by a different name and not expect to be told about that,” Blanche said.

“President Trump has said from day one that we will fight for parents and their rights and that’s what we’re doing here,” Blanche said. “And I hope that the courts will do the right thing and make sure that parents, again, we’re talking about fundamental rights, that every parent should have.”

“Yeah, well, this is a clear attempt to undermine parental authority, the traditional family, traditional family values, or just basic biology,” Ingraham said. “The district told us that contrary to the allegations the district maintains that it’s in full compliance with FERPA and PPRA, the people’s rights, and is disappointed by the DOJ’s decision to file the lawsuit.”
