‘Thank You for the Question!’ Trump Praises Friendly Reporter For Teeing Up Attack on Jack Smith

President Donald Trump thanked a friendly reporter Wednesday for a question that allowed him to trash ex-special prosecutor Jack Smith.

As the president took questions in the Oval Office, LindellTV correspondent Cara Castronuova asked Trump:

Do you have further comments on Merrick Garland’s FBI tracking of First Lady Melania and your then minor son Barron, as well as Susie Wiles? What does that say about the DOJ under Biden?

Trump first thanked Castronuova for the question before calling it a “disgrace” and launching into an attack on Garland.

“Merrick Garland and a whole group of thugs that preceded us, they weaponized government,” Trump said. “They were tracking my wife, my son — who’s a minor, a very young minor and a very good person. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it. They did the raid on Mar-a-Lago. They did things to people that were associated with us that nobody should have been able to do, and it all came out just recently in the files and it’s great that it came out, so now people understand what we went through.”

Smith was not spared from his ire. The president continued:

These were bad people. These are bad sick people actually, very sick people. Deranged Jack Smith, he’s a sick guy. He lied before Congress. He lied all over the place. His whole life is a lie, and so many others that were just very bad. It’s a very bad group of people and. They were being led by a man that didn’t lead. He didn’t know what was– he didn’t know. He possibly didn’t know what was going on. I think he did. I think he had a mean streak. Not smart, but mean. So, it’s a shame. Thank you for the question, but it’s a shame.

According to a recent report from the Daily Signal, Smith tracked phone calls and emails sent by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles in 2024. The report was met with outrage among Republicans, as one called the scandal “bigger” than Watergate.

This surveillance operation reportedly extended to the first lady and Trump’s son Barron.
