Ted Cruz Sounds Alarm on Rising Anti-Semitism On the Right: More Than ‘Any Point In My Lifetime’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) sounded the alarm about the rise of anti-Semitism in the Republican Party this week in an interview with Wall Street Journal editor Jack Butler.
Butler published an eyebrow-raising piece on Wednesday titled, “Republicans Have a ‘Groyper’ Problem,” in which he dug into the rise of anti-Semitism among young men in the party.
“The specter of ‘Groyperism’ is haunting Republicans,” Butler writes to open his argument, referring to white supremacist movement led by Nick Fuentes.
“The Groyper problem is real,” Cruz is quoted as telling Butler, adding, “I’ve seen more antisemitism on the right in the last two years than at any point in my lifetime.” Butler added:
It shows up in his X replies anytime he’s supportive of Israel. It even shows up in his congressional office. Mr. Cruz described some recent trouble filling a vacancy because half the applicants said they couldn’t stomach his support for Israel.
Cruz’s remarks highlight the growing battle over Israel and anti-Semitism in the GOP, as the Texas Republican positions himself as an alternative to conservatives wary of Vice President JD Vance’s close relationship to Tucker Carlson — who has widely been accused of promoting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in recent months.
“It’s not difficult to find my views on this topic. They are not a secret. I am not shy about it. If 50% of the people applying and saying, ‘I want to work for you,’ are expressing these sentiments, what do you think the 22-year-old staffer who’s working for a run-of-the-mill congressional member is expressing or not expressing?” Cruz added.
Butler also notes recent commentary from conservative writer Rod Dreher, who in 2025 “passed along an insider’s estimate that 30% to 40% of Gen Z ‘congressional and administration staffers’ were Groypers.”
Butler notes that Hill staffers he spoke to for his article think Dreher “exaggerates” the amount of Groypers working for GOP members of Congress.
He does however run through some of the recent scandals this election from the campaign trail, including revelations that Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) and Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) had to fire staffers with white supremacist ties.
