‘Sitting on Their Wallets!’ Joe Scarborough Goads Democratic Donors for Not Ponying Up Amid Potential ‘Blue Tsunami’

Joe Scarborough — a man with undeniable influence among the Beltway establishment — sent out a clarion call on Monday morning to Democratic donors: Time to pony up.

In the opening segment of Monday’s Morning Joe, Scarborough goaded Democrats’ financial backers, accusing them of holding out based on past failures, and ignoring the opportunity before them in 2026.

“Democratic donors are so freaked out by what happened in 2024,” Scarborough said. “‘Oh, they’re so left-wing. They’re such radicals. They can never win these races. I gave money in ’24 and look what happened!’ There’s a mirage here. They’re so shattered by Donald Trump winning in ’24, they didn’t look at all the other races.”

Scarborough went on to argue that — apart from the presidential election — Democrats fared well in most swing-state races in 2024. And he suggested money spent on the Democrats’ behalf this time around would not go to waste.

“If this is a blue tsunami in ’26, we’re going to look back and people are going to go, ‘Oh, wait! Over the last two election cycles, Democrats… have won 90 percent’ — they could be saying this – ’90 percent of every swing state Senate race,'” Scarborough said. “And yet, here you have Democratic donors sitting on their wallets because they’re so freaked out that Kamala Harris lost!”

The discussion coincided with a Politico report from Jonathan Martin titled, “Democrats Are Underfunding the Races That Could Remake the Map.” The premise of that piece was that Democratic funders are largely sitting out of crucial gubernatorial races in states like Texas and Florida.

“If they can’t be competitive in Florida and Texas every four years in the presidential, they’re going to have a really hard time getting to 270 [electoral votes],” Martin said — during his appearance on Morning Joe Monday. “A really hard time getting to 270. So you got to get Florida and/or Texas onto the map.”
