SHOCK POLL: Trump Approval Hits Another New Low, Support Slipping Among Past Backers

An eye-opening new poll has shown that President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest level in either of his two terms, as a growing number of past supporters say they wouldn’t vote for him again.

The UMass-Amherst survey of 1,000 people, conducted between August 21 and 26, found growing dissatisfaction with the president, due mostly to the ongoing war in Iran and financial pain at the gas pump and grocery checkout. The margin of error in the poll was 3.5%.

“With no end in sight to the ongoing war in Iran, the continued rise in the price of gas, groceries, utilities, and housing, an escalating trade war with Canada, and the likelihood of higher interest rates, it comes as no surprise that Trump’s approval rating remains at a paltry 32%, a 1-percentage-point drop since we last polled in March 2026,” Tatishe Nteta, poll director and provost professor of political science at UMass Amherst, said in a statement.

The poll also noted growing regret among those who cast a ballot for Trump in the 2024 election, with about 16 percent of respondents saying they wouldn’t back him again if they could do it all over again.

“This is hardly a mass exodus from the Trump tent, but is enough that it certainly could’ve been decisive against Trump in what was a relatively close 2024 election,” poll co-director and political science professor Alexander Theodoridis said in the statement. “More notably, though, there are now clear, consistent signs of an erosion trend.”

The lows keep getting lower for Trump, as he recorded a 33 percent approval rating in a Reuters-Ipsos poll earlier this month.

A Quinnipiac poll in July also put Trump’s approval at 32 percent.
