Scott Jennings Sent His Natalie Harp Remarks to White House in Bid to Succeed Leavitt as Press Secretary: Report

CNN’s Scott Jennings has reportedly sent clips of himself defending President Donald Trump’s close aide, Natalie Harp, to the White House in a bid to become the next Press Secretary. 

Jennings went scorched earth on Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) after Ossoff’s mention of Harp at a campaign rally Sunday went viral and sent the political landscape into a frenzy.

Ossoff — who proclaimed Trump would rather “travel with Natalie” than carry out his duties as president, sparked a wave of backlash from the MAGA base who claimed the senator had insinuated a sexual relationship between the commander in chief and his aide.

Among the most vocals critics was Jennings, who lashed out at Ossoff both on CNN and his own podcast.

According to a Thursday report from Politico, Jennings sent those clips to the White House in a push to succeed current Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt:

Some in Trump world took notice as the heat fell back on Ossoff. Others dubbed Jennings’ jockeying as a fairly obvious public audition for a job he’s been eyeing since the transition, people close to the president told Playbook.

The clips made their way around the White House — in part because Jennings sent them to several senior staffers, according to a person close to the White House.

Replacing Karoline Leavitt remains a slow-moving process, multiple people familiar told Playbook, but that hasn’t stopped Jennings from pushing. He met privately with Chief of Staff Susie Wiles over the weekend — a meeting Jennings reached out to schedule, according to a person close to the White House. No decision was made and no offer was extended.

Jennings told Politico, “I don’t have anything to say about that,” when asked about his interest in the job.

Two days earlier, Jennings called Ossoff’s comments “disgusting” during a heated exchange on CNN. He also called the senator a “coward” for not defending his words and claimed he was “outraged” over the whole ordeal.

Despite Jennings being liked by Trump and his circle, the president is reportedly “not quite sold” on making him the next Press Secretary.

Jennings did not immediately respond to Mediaite’s request for comment.
