WATCH: Republican NJ Mayor Charges Resident During Explosive Meeting, Shouts ‘I Am ‘F*cking Getting You!’

A Republican mayor in New Jersey is facing a criminal complaint after charging at a resident during a contentious town meeting, later admitting that he “basically just snapped” in the incident that was caught on video.

Pemberton Township Mayor Matthew Bianchini (R) charged a vocal critic during a township meeting this week. Video shows the mayor at one point running at a man during the tense meeting, only to be stopped by multiple people.

The resident the mayor lunged at is Michael Sawka. The mayor claimed Sawka was making inappropriate comments about his wife and daughter, something the critic denies. According to Pine Barrens Tribune, Sawka made a hand gesture towards a woman in the back of the room that “was interpreted by some as a hostile gesture, by others as a suggestion they should leave.”

After the mayor started shouting at Sawka, the resident appears to flip the bird to the mayor.

“I am f*cking getting you!” the mayor yelled during the video.

After the outburst, someone can be heard yelling, “He should resign!” about the mayor.

“Yup, that’s the Jersey I grew up in,” Fox News’ Todd Piro joked when reporting on the story on Friday morning on Fox & Friends First.

According to Bianchini, he “snapped,” adding that the boiling-over moment had been brewing.

“I just basically snapped. I hate to put it this way, but it’s a long time coming,” the mayor said in a statement after the incident.

He assured everyone he’s not out to “get anybody” and admitted he was wrong. He still said he would do it all over again, accusing Sawka and another person in the room of making inappropriate comments to his family.

“Was it wrong? Absolutely. Was it justified? Absolutely. And I would do it again if I had to,” the mayor said.

Sawka filed a municipal court complaint seeking assault and terroristic threat charges against Bianchini. It is not yet clear whether police will actually charge him.
