Reporter Grills Tom Homan for Three Minutes Over ICE Arrest at School Bus Stop

MeidasTouch reporter Luke Radel grilled White House border czar Tom Homan for more than three minutes over the arrest of an undocumented father at a Connecticut school bus stop, repeatedly pressing Homan on whether ICE should detain parents in front of their children — and challenging him when he claimed to be unfamiliar with the case.

The exchange came after Homan was pressed on CNN last week about separate allegations that ICE had arrested parents at school bus stops in Danbury, Connecticut. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Gov. Ned Lamont (D) raised alarms over the reports, which the Department of Homeland Security disputed.

Radel, however, appeared to be referring to a May incident in Bridgeport — despite characterizing it as happening “last week” — where ICE confirmed agents arrested a father who was waiting with his 16-year-old son at a school bus stop. ICE said the man had entered the U.S. illegally in 2005 and had been ordered removed that year, while stressing that the teenager was never detained and remained with officers until his mother arrived.

“Do you believe that ICE should be arresting parents in front of their children at school bus stops?” Radel asked on Tuesday.

“Has ICE arrested parents at school bus stops?” Homan asked. “I’m not aware of that. Are they in the country illegally?”

“He was in the country illegally for 20 years but did not commit any other crimes while in the interior of the United States,” the reporter responded. “Should he be arrested in front of his 16-year-old daughter at the school bus stop?”

Radel mistakenly referred to the teenager as the man’s daughter, while reports confirm he was his son.

“I’m not aware of that,” Homan reiterated.

“ICE confirmed it in a statement,” the MeidasTouch journalist interjected. “What message does it send to children at school bus stops to see migrants arrested?”

Homan defended ICE’s actions, emphasizing that having “a U.S. citizen child” does not mean “you’re off the table.” He later maintained that ICE had not arrested anyone at a school, church, or hospital, though he said agents could do so if the target posed a “significant” public safety or national security threat.

After Radel again raised the Bridgeport case, the border czar said he was “not aware of every arrest” and had asked ICE to “run it down,” but had not yet received information about it.

“But the basic question is, there is no sanctuary for public safety threats and national security threats in this country,” Homan said.

“Do you think a father who’s been here for 20 years is a national security threat to the country?” Radel shot back.

“Pardon me?” Homan replied. “Are they a national security threat? If we’ve got no intelligence, they’re not a national security threat… Are they in the country illegally? Yes.”
