Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) launched a scathing attack on former Biden-era Secretary of State Antony Blinken this week as he vehemently denied reporting that he delayed negotiations for Hamas to release hostages taken during the horrific October 7th attack on southern Israel.
Tlaib’s stunning attack on her fellow Democrat was preceded by Blinken denying part of a report from Haaretz, which came out earlier in the week.
Far-left writer and pundit Ryan Grim shared part of that report under the caption, “Ha’aretz reports that Hamas, through Qatar, conveyed immediately on Oct. 7 that they were willing to return all the civilian hostages for nothing — their only ask was for a mediator to arrange the exchange and establish a connection to then negotiate the further release of the soldiers. Israel refused to talk or hear about it.”
Grim shared a screenshot from the report which read:
Al-Thani did not give up. He called U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. “Listen,” he told him, “there are
hundreds of hostages in Gaza, and among them, in my estimation, dozens of civilians. They need to be released now. I offered the Israelis to mediate a quick deal for their release, but they are not interested.”Blinken informed al-Thani that he planned to fly to Israel within three days. “Let’s wait,” he reassured him. “I will speak with Netanyahu personally.” Al-Thani pressed on. “You know that time is an important factor. We need to act now.” Blinken stopped him: “Right now, the situation is complex. Israel is still under attack, and there’s no one to talk to. We will wait three days.”
Blinken then replied to Grim’s post and added, “For the record, this is false. Complete fiction.”
Tlaib jumped in and hit Blinken hard, writing, “Nah. You totally waited. Waited until there were no functional hospitals, until the death toll rose in the thousands, waited until they were dropping white phosphorus on civil population, you just waited….did NOTHING to stop the genocide.”
Tlaib’s attack on Blinken highlights the growing rift within the Democratic Party over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the rise of the far-left.
The Haaretz report made waves globally as it revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned ahead of October 7th by UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed that Hamas could be preparing a ground offensive into Israel. Former Israeli Prime Ministers Naftali Bennett and Ehud Olmert have both gone on the record to say they believe the Haaretz report to be true.
Netanyahu has vehemently denied the report and vowed to sue Haaretz for libel. Haaretz, in turn, has defended its report and put out a statement welcoming a chance to defend it in court.
