Democratic candidate Kisha Skipper was detained by police after an explosive altercation in a restroom involving her Republican opponent’s mother.

Skipper, who is running in the midterms to unseat Westchester County Legislator James Nolan in District 15, was cuffed after an altercation involving Nolan’s mother, Donna Nolan.

Local outlet Black Westchester laid out the alleged incident in a report, based on an attendee at the event who asked to remain anonymous. According to that source, Donna Nolan and a companion approached Skipper and exchanged words and then followed her into the restroom.

Multiple attendees said Donna Nolan came out of the bathroom “bloody.” The original disagreement was reportedly about donations made to Skipper’s campaign.

The event was held at the Beczak Environmental Center in Yonkers.

James Nolan posted video to his Instagram that shows Skipper and the other women exchanging tense words in the restroom.

“There is absolutely no justification for violence. Anyone seeking public office is expected to demonstrate sound judgment, self-control, and the ability to handle confrontation without resorting to physical aggression,” Nolan wrote, adding that the altercation shows why Skipper is “not fit to serve public office.”

According to Nolan, the altercation stemmed from one woman accusing Skipper of owing her money. He claimed his mother tried to step in and “de-escalate” the situation.

He wrote:

The incident began when a woman who claims she is owed money questioned my opponent. After walking away from the confrontation, my opponent later argued with the same woman in the restroom. My mother attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation. It wasn’t until the door was open and my opponent’s friends were behind her that she started to become violent. According to multiple eyewitnesses, my opponent then physically attacked my mother, repeatedly punching and scratching her, causing her to bleed from her face and arm.

Skipper claimed in comments to Yonkers News that it was Donna Nolan who “assaulted” her.

Skipper made her own post to Facebook where she denied being arrested and blasted “misinformation” as her arm was in a sling.

“No, I was not arrested. Yes, I was detained pending an investigation. Of course, I was released, and there will be more information forthcoming,” she said.
