‘Not Good’: Trump Learns From the Press That a Hurricane May Be Headed Toward the Gulf Coast

President Donald Trump appeared surprised to learn that a possible hurricane was approaching the U.S. Gulf Coast, telling reporters in the Oval Office, “That’s not good.”

Trump was informed about Tropical Storm Isaias, which is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, during a Q&A session after a Trump Accounts event at the White House on Wednesday.

One of the assembled reporters brought it up as he asked Trump about his plans to attend Saturday night’s college football game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs.

“A hurricane is forecast to hit the Gulf Coast this weekend,” the reporter said. “Are you still planning to go to Alabama and go to the football game on Saturday?”

After a long-ish pause, Trump replied:

Well… Hurricane and football. I love Alabama. I’ve got to go to a game. It would be awfully hard. Look, if there is an emergency, if there’s a hurricane, I don’t want to do anything to take the focus off all the great people that work on those things. You know we have some tremendously great people. I don’t want to take the focus off. So we’ll have to see. I hadn’t heard about a hurricane. A hurricane is going in the vicinity of Alabama? That’s not good. Certainly, I’m going to let the hurricane determine. I want people to be safe. That’s all.

“Alabama athletics is closely monitoring the weather forecast ahead of Saturday’s football game vs. Georgia,” University of Alabama athletics said in a statement to ESPN on Tuesday. “At this time, there are no plans to alter the contest. We will continue to observe conditions throughout the week and remain in communication with the Southeastern Conference office, as needed.”
