New Trailer for Four-Hour Long ‘Musk’ Documentary Calls Billionaire ‘Real-Life Iron Man’ And a ‘Fascist’

A teaser trailer for an upcoming, four-hour long documentary on billionaire Elon Musk can’t seem to make up its mind about the controversial Tesla owner — calling him both the “greatest” and a “fascist” all in one 49-second clip.

The trailer, which dropped Monday night on YouTube, includes a series of images of rockets blasting into the sky and falling back to Earth, and various voices commenting on the 55-year-old Musk.

“He’s possibly the greatest living inventor,” one voice says, while another adds, “He is the real-life Iron Man.”

“He is one of the greatest builders of all time,” another says before things take a darker turn in tone.

“He is the greatest capitalist in history,” another voice says, before adding, “He’s chaotic, random, capricious, manifestly cruel and selfish,”

“He’s a fascist,” one voice declares.

Finally, over an image of a spacecraft falling to the ground before blowing up in an immense ball of fire, a voice declares, “Elon is a nuke.”

Director Alex Gibney, whose film is set to make its premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival Tuesday and hit theaters in October, told the Associated Press that Musk left those who know him terrified.

“Nothing compares to this in terms of the scope of his power. What’s interesting about Musk is it’s not so much something that’s new as an old wine in a new bottle,” he told the AP.

“And Musk, I think like some of the characters that I’ve followed in the past, is afflicted with what some people call noble cause corruption. That is to say, you begin to believe in a cause. And in Musk’s case, it was making us multiplanetary and also leading us into a more sustainable environmental world. And because you’re in line with those important, valuable, good causes, anything you do in the service of those causes is OK. And ultimately that leads you to corruption,” he continued.

Gibney then went on to say Musk “is not dissimilar from the guys at Enron. He’s not dissimilar from Elizabeth Holmes in the way that he bent the truth to serve his impulses. The one big difference with Musk is that he has companies (SpaceX and Tesla) which contain a great number of very qualified engineers and executive leaders.”
