NATO Boss Fawns Over Trump on Fox News: ‘He Was Completely Right!’

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte fell all over himself giving credit to President Donald Trump on issues from Ukraine to Greenland during an interview with Fox News on Thursday.

Rutte began his discussion of Ukraine by playing both sides of the field, calling Putin’s war an “unprovoked war of aggression,” a description that Trump has never agreed with. Instead, Trump has blamed Ukraine for the war. But Rutte quickly changed course by crediting Trump for supporting Ukraine through weapons and diplomacy.

“My message is to my colleagues in NATO, make sure that you keep full focus on Ukraine, don’t let yourself divert about other issues. Full focus Ukraine, including keeping the support for Ukraine going, and I know that the United States and this president, he and I agreed to a program a year ago where Europeans and Canada pay for weapons from the U.S. delivered to Ukraine. That’s still continuing,” Rutte said.

“And secondly, we need what is taking place today and yesterday and every day of the week, the constant effort by the American president — and I applaud him for this — breaking the deadlock with Putin, trying to get this terrible war to a peaceful end, together with his important advisers, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, and, of course, Marco Rubio, working in concert to make that happen. So this is necessary — continued support for Ukraine, but also the peace process, which the U.S. is leading.”

Fox News’s John Roberts asked Rutte about Trump’s recent agreement that would expand U.S. military access on Greenland while dropping demands to annex or purchase the island.

“Well, what President Trump has consistently said is that there is this risk, and he is completely right, that Russia and China might gain more access to the High Arctic, including Greenland, and also that Greenland is of vital importance for the protection of the United States itself,” Rutte said.

“And what he has been able to achieve, together with the prime ministers of Greenland and Denmark, is a deal where long-term investments the U.S. is making in Greenland supporting the defense of the United States and NATO territory are there to stay long-term, but also to prevent the Russians and the Chinese to get access to Greenland’s economy,” Rutte said.

“In the meantime — and this is what he and I discussed in Davos — we see NATO countries collectively taking responsibility for the protection of the whole Arctic Circle,” Rutte said. “Again, implementing the president’s vision of a secure and safe Arctic. So I think he was completely right to make that point, and I think he was able to get the prime ministers to bring this to a very successful outcome.”
